Damascus Educational Center of Scholars

HISTORY

“God’s thoughts are not our thoughts, nor His ways our ways.” This is the best Bible passage that we could choose to  describe   the  beginning  of  the  Damascus Educational   Center  of  Scholars.  Starting  a  formal  educational institution was never one of the family’s dreams. Until the burden to educate little children was shared with one of the family members.

It all started with the humble thought of having the “Little Lights Learning Center”  (IBMF), a tutorial that aims to be an extension of church Sunday School only  on  a  regular  daily  basis. The first year was indeed challenging, full of excitement and joy. The second year came,  and  the number of students grew larger along with greater pressure and responsibility. In  1999,  the  board of  trustees  was  elected  and officially  decided  to  apply  for  a  government to operate  under  the  Department  of  Education  Culture,  and  Sports. Immediately,  the  permit  has  been  granted  and it was because of God’s abundant blessing. Some friends from different educational institutions helped. Praise be to God!

Why and how the pioneers came up with the name Damascus Educational Center of Scholars?

Damascus was  derived from a  place in the  Bible, which was known to be the place of  encounter with God by Saint Paul  of the New Testament. It was the road  that  led   him to know and experience the saving power of the Lord Jesus  Christ. Just like  it has been in the life of Paul, this institution is intended to be the place  where the children would be led to know and experience God in their lives.

Educational Center…  for   it   is  an   institution  which  aims  to give  children and young people  a formal  education. It  is  where  learning  experience  will take  place.

Of Scholars… for  its  goal  is  to  make  and  produce academic scholars who will be trained to continue the task of  the institution to extend help for those unfortunate of the generations to  come.

The school is also designed to  help by giving programs.
